Special Data Dissemination Standard

Summary

According to information provided by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on its Dissemination Standards Bulletin Board (DSBB) website, Jordan is not a subscriber to the IMF's Special Data Dissemination Standard (SDDS). However, a 2007 report by the IMF indicates that Jordan intends to subscribe to SDDS by the middle of 2007. Presently the IMF's DSBB website indicates that Jordan does participate in the IMF's General Data Dissemination System (GDDS).

    General Overview

Jordan intends to subscribe to the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) Special Data Dissemination Standard (SDDS) by the middle of 2007 and is already a participant in the IMF's General Data Dissemination System (GDDS) (IMF GDDS website). According to Jordan's Department of Statistics (DoS) website, the DoS was established in 1949 in accordance with the Statistics Law of 1950. The Statistics Law identifies the responsibilities of the DoS, and the DoS maintains relationships with regional and international statistical organizations.
In a 2004 IMF Report on the Observance of Standards and Codes (ROSC), the IMF concluded that by undertaking a forceful implementation plan Jordan would be able to meet most requirements for SDDS subscription. The IMF indicated that additional resources were being allocated to improve the quality of the statistics. Similarly the IMF report also noted that Jordan intended to enhance the accessibility of its data.
